Retro Rockets & Robot Nursery
This playful retro rockets and robot nursery was designed and created by mum April for her third son. April is an art teacher so creating this nursery on a budget and using her artistic skills was a piece of cake. A great thing about this robot nursery design is that it will adapt easily as April’s son grows. The funky retro rocket cot bedding is designed by Dwell Studio from Target and April said “I liked the mod shapes. Originally I was going to do only retro robots for the nursery but couldn’t help but fall in love with this bedding.. plus I didn’t want to have to make my own!” The mural was painted freehand onto a light grey wall. April made the straight gray lines with tape and drew out the mural with rulers, levels and the edge of a template for the curved corners.
Ikea Hemnes guest bed for mummy or daddy to sleep, read or relax with their son. The blue push wagon is also from Ikea, who make some charmingly simple toys at great prices. Bright coloured robot decals were brought from a dollar shop and were spray painted white, and stuck on the wall above the daybed. They look stylish against the contrast of the dark grey walls. The cute robot doll was handmade by April, who admits “I’m no seamstress and the sewing machine was not easy for me to use but I just HAD to have a robot doll and this cost me nothing to make! I’m really going for the “so ugly it’s cute” look here.” The tin robot and tin rockets were brought on the internet. The arrangement of retro robot and rocket prints is fun , especially the UFO created by April’s 8 year old son and the orange robot drawn by her 3 year old. It looks like April is not the only artist in the family!
