This bright nursery was created by Bethany from Tokyo Textiles for her daughter Poppy. It is inspired by Japanese children’s characters and fabrics and has a fun and eclectic feel. We asked Bethany the story behind her colourful & bright nursery:
What inspired your nursery style?
I was inspired by shabby chic style, vintage circus imagery, and cute Japanese children’s characters. Rather than picking a theme for the nursery, I went for fresh, bright rainbow colours which pulled all my ideas together and allowed me to combine lots of different influences. I think it all worked quite well together!
Can you share with us your nursery styling tips?
Our house is rented so I didn’t have the option of painting the room, but the warm cream walls and wooden floor make a wonderful neutral backdrop. I added bright splashes of colour with the fabric I chose for the bunting, curtains and quilts, and the brightly painted chest of drawers. The room is quite versatile and could work well for an older child as well as a baby with just a few changes.
Do you have any clever storage ideas?
The rail in the alcove made for a great place to hang all the cute clothes we were given, and having them out on display added more colour to the room. Poppy’s cute shoes, books & toys look great on the shelf, combining storage & display. Wicker baskets are great to fill up with socks, hats and other bits ‘n’ bobs!
What is your & Poppy’s favourite things in the room?
My favourite thing about Poppy’s room is the rainbow coloured bunting which goes right around the room. I raided my fabric stash and made the bunting on a few summer afternoons whilst I was pregnant. Poppy loves looking up at the bright colours, it makes me really happy!

Poppy is so sweet on her handmade quilt lovingly made by mummy, check out Bethany’s blog for her quilt tutorial. Thanks for letting us share your lovely nursery Bethany!
